When do most deadly crashes occur?

For those who are concerned about the likelihood of a deadly accident taking place, there are many different factors to review, such as the prevalence of drunk driving and the ways in which poor weather conditions can affect the roads. However, it may be a good idea to look at accidents and when they occur more frequently based on the time of week and the time of day. Fatal accidents can take place at any time, but there are certain periods when the likelihood of such an accident may be even greater.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, most of the fatal accidents that occurred in 2010 took place on Saturdays (5,494). In comparison, 3,709 took place on Wednesdays. Based on the time of day, most fatal accidents in 2010 took place between 3 PM and 6 PM, when 4,867 fatal collisions occurred. During these hours, many people may be in a rush to get home from work or find themselves in congested traffic. This data shows that while driving during the night can be dangerous, daytime traffic also poses a risk.

Sadly, deadly accidents can be extremely devastating for the loved ones of those whose lives are claimed regardless of the time of day or the time of week that the accident occurred. When someone passes away in a motor vehicle collision, they may leave their loved ones with a great deal of emotional pain and the families of victims may struggle with financial troubles as well (such as funeral costs, lost income, etc.).
